Compared with the heavy-duty card market, the young card market still maintained a steady growth. As of the end of September, the market share of light trucks was basically the same as that of the same period of last year. Sales volume accounted for 53.79% of the overall truck market, which was a decrease of 1.38 percentage points compared with the same period of last year.

From the sales situation in the first three quarters, the market’s demand for “large light trucks” with large tonnages, heavy loads, and high speeds increased significantly. At the same time, ordinary light trucks, which are still the main players in market sales, continued to maintain steady growth, keeping the overall market nearly 20%. Year-on-year growth.

According to the statistics provided by the China Automobile Association, high-tech and heavy-duty "large light trucks" are sought after by the market. From January to September of this year, the cumulative production and sales volume of the light truck market were 845,293 vehicles and 833,179 vehicles, respectively, a year-on-year increase of 19.83% and 18.70%. Among them, in September, 100,347 light trucks and 96,366 light trucks were sold, a year-on-year increase of 19.36% and 23.60%, respectively.

Affected by the main market slowdown

According to data from the China Automotive Industry Association, the fastest growth rate in this young card segment is the large tonnage light truck with a total mass between 4.5 (excluding) and 6 tons. Sales volume of light trucks in the first nine months of this segment is 98,675. Vehicles, an increase of 64.28% over the same period of last year, have become an important growth point for the light truck market. Its September sales were 10,841 units, an increase of 60.73% over the same period last year. In contrast, the growth rate of 3.5 (excluding) to 4.5-ton light truck products slightly decreased. From January to September, a total of 232,857 vehicles were sold, a year-on-year increase of 12.37%. In addition, sales of 1.8 (excluding) to 3.5-ton light trucks were relatively stable, with sales of 361,216 units in January-September, an increase of 18%.

From the above data, it can be seen that the light trucks with a total mass of 1.8 (excluding) to 3.5 tons still occupy the mainstream of light truck sales, although the large tonnage light trucks between 4.5 (excluding) and 6 tons grow rapidly. However, the sales volume of this segment accounted for only 11.85% of the total sales of light trucks, while the sales of the other two main product segments accounted for 71.30% of the total sales, with an average growth rate of only 15.82%, which led to the overall growth rate of light trucks. slow.

Among the 42 light truck companies registered in the China Automotive Industry Association, 17 companies accumulated sales exceeded 10,000 in the first three quarters (of which 14 companies had sold 10,000 units in the first half of the year). The combined sales of these 17 companies accounted for 796407 vehicles, accounting for 95.58% of the total sales of the industry. Among them, in addition to Futian still stand out (cumulative sales 242,792 units), Dongfeng (92,254 units) and JAC (82,497 units) are also in the second tier with a larger lead. The Great Wall advanced 40,000-class (40,709) ultra-Vietnam (36732) vehicles, ranking fourth to sixth with Jiangling (47,587) and Kama (45,875). Looking at the year-on-year growth rate, there are Jianghuai (+18.94%), Kama (+31.93%), FAW Hongta (+28.18%), Beijing Automobile Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (+62.68%), Chang’an (+26.35%) and Chongqing Lifan (+258.69%) were higher than the industry average growth rate (+18.70%). Among the top three major companies, the growth rates of Futian and Dongfeng were 12.34% and 18.56%, respectively. It can be seen that the steady growth of several major companies has become another factor in maintaining the steady growth of the light truck industry as a whole.

"Large light trucks" favored

The large tonnage light trucks with a total mass of 4.5 (excluding) to 6 tons this year continued the rapid growth of last year, and its growth rate of 64.28% year-on-year was 7 percentage points higher than that of the same period of last year. Since this level of light truck is close to the mid-sized truck in terms of payload and configuration, it is often called a "large light truck."

Liu Yong, a truck analyst, believes that with the rapid development of domestic highway construction and improvement of urban and rural road conditions, people’s living standards have improved and the pace of life has been accelerated, and domestic weight-related charges have been fully rolled out, with large tonnages and heavy loads. The high-end, high-speed, interior-advanced high-performance light trucks are beginning to attract more users.

Liu Yong analyzed that the maximum capacity of traditional light trucks is 4 tons, the maximum speed is 80 to 90 km, and the engine power is 70 to 80 kW. The narrow space in the cab has been unable to adapt to the requirements of heavy-duty driving on the highway and cannot meet the needs of the multi-level market. The use of supercharged, medium-cooled diesel engines in large light trucks has greatly improved power output, vehicle acceleration, and economic efficiency. At the same time, chassis optimization has resulted in higher durability and its “high-speed and heavy-load” performance has been upgraded again. This development trend has enabled the light trucks to reach the category of China Cards in terms of functionality, and some large light truck products have gradually begun to occupy the market that was originally part of China Card.

According to Liu Yong, at present, almost all the old light-card companies in China have introduced such light trucks, such as Foton Aoling MRT, Ou Ma Ke; Jianghuai's Shuai Ling, Wei Ling; Nanqi Iveco's Ou Ba light truck; Dongfeng Dolika, etc. . He believes that from the current market demand for products, the trend of high-tech light trucks and sedan-based routes is clear. The future light-card market will focus on the light-duty truck market.

For the market prospects of large light trucks, a relevant person in charge of the Jianghuai Marketing Department expressed approval. However, he also stated that although more and more private companies have begun to purchase large light trucks, these enterprises are still mainly concentrated in economically developed areas on the southeast coast. The responsible person analyzed that at present, the rural market occupies more than 70% of the light truck market, and most of the peasant users are still in the stage of upgrading from the agricultural vehicle to the low-end light trucks. Therefore, he believes that the “large-light trucks” are fast but the base is small. At present, it is still unable to occupy the mainstream market."
