National standards for child safety seats for motor vehicles will be issued next month

There are 90 million children under the age of 7 in China. As China’s car ownership keeps rising, adults use seat belts to protect them while weaker children need special protection facilities. Recently, reporters from the Southern Metropolis learned from related departments that the ruling national standards for compulsory implementation of child safety on vehicles that was formally implemented on July 1 (CRS) will be issued in December. This is the first in our country. The Ministry of Health imposes mandatory national standards on restraint devices for child seats in motor vehicles. Previously, the production and use of child safety seats has always been a blank area for laws and regulations.

Sun Shiqing, an analyst in the automobile industry, cited data that from 2007 to 2009, there were 60,993 road accidents involving people under the age of 15 in China. Among them, the proportion of young children aged 0-6 years is the highest, and the death toll and the number of injured persons account for 50.03% and 37.28%, respectively. At present, the child safety seat equipment rate in China is less than 0.1%.

It is reported that the forthcoming "Restriction System for Motor Vehicle Children Crew" draws on the European ECER 44 standard and introduces the internationally-available ISO FIX standard anchor system. In addition to installing fixtures, child restraint systems are subject to dynamic testing. The standard makes different regulations for the occupants of different weight ranges and applies to children under 1 year old, 1 to 4 years old, and 4 to 11 years old, respectively. Babies above 1 year of age should use back-to-back child safety seats, 10kg to 18kg of walking children should use positive (forward) child safety seats, 18kg to 27kg of children should use children's increased seat cushions and Adult safety harnesses are available for teenagers over 12 years old or younger than 1.45 meters.
