A new research report shows that the life expectancy of young HIV patients can be equal to that of the general population. Researchers who published a new study in the journal PLoS observed about 23,000 HIV positive people aged 20 years or older and those who were infected with HIV. The researchers came from the AIDS Research Center in British Columbia, and researched and designed an analysis of life expectancy in North America from 2000 to 2007. They found that 20-year-old participants taking antiretrovirals had a dramatic increase in life expectancy during this period. From 2000 to 2002, their life expectancy will increase by 36 years, and from 2006 to 2007 will jump to 51 years. Based on this data, the scientists came to a conclusion that 20-year-old HIV patients are expected to live in their 70s, which is basically in line with the average life expectancy of ordinary people. The low life expectancy among these HIV-positive patients included history of drug use, non-white races, and minorities. "To be honest, I don't think that in the medical field, there is no revolutionary evolution like AIDS," said researcher Dr. Julio Montana.
