Last week, the new aluminum body and electric bus eBUS-12 jointly developed by BYD and Alcoa officially went offline in Changsha, Hunan. 
It is understood that the bus structure design of eBUS-12 is based on Alcoa's safe transportation design strength. This design covers the ground transportation space frame technology designed by world top brands such as Ferrari and Audi. At the same time, Alcoa's forging wheels and Huck Rotary (R) fasteners were used to reduce body weight by up to 1.2 tons. "Replacing the steel body of the bus with an aluminum body has reduced the bus's vehicle weight by 1.2 tons, which is very encouraging," said Jinya Chen, president of Alcoa Asia Pacific. “However, this design is not just about reducing the weight of the car – the new design is more prominent in terms of durability, corrosion resistance and recyclability, and it is expected to increase the single-charge mileage of the bus by at least 10%.â€
Xie Shibin, vice president of BYD Automotive Engineering Research Institute, said: “The combination of Alcoa's design and materials with our company’s environmentally-friendly iron battery and power system makes our electric buses regardless of their environmental protection, emissions, mileage, Security and other performance aspects have become the strongest in the industry." 
BYD plans to produce thousands of pure electric buses for China and Southeast Asia, and will export according to the market demand for electric vehicles and electric buses worldwide, and even localize production. Hertz announced last week that the first batch of BYD pure electric buses have been operated at Los Angeles International Airport. Alcoa is a supplier of hard aluminum extrusion products, forged aluminum tires and fasteners for buses.
