At the start of 2019, igus® embarked
on a new journey with the newly-released drylin® delta robot, in order to reach as many customers across as many
industries as possible. Each tour involved a demonstration of the delta robot
(small version: 360mm diameter reach) on the premises of each requesting
customer. We first split the UK region to identify key areas for us to take our robot. We began by inviting current and prospective customers to get involved with the tour in their areas and added further customers to the planned tour upon receiving extra requests. We examined the ways in which our LCA team can reduce costs,
increase production, and deliver bespoke solutions to myriad different
applications across a wide variety of industries – including but not limited
to: automotive, food and beverage, packaging, OEM, research and education and
medical. We aimed, and continue to aim, to be as flexible as possible in order
to solve as many not-yet-automated application requirements. The achievements stand not only in
concept but also as proof: our message for igus® Low Cost Automation has stretched
far and wide, and this is what we aimed to accomplish. With a delta robot tour visiting
over 45 customers and covering more than 5000 miles, across 28 counties and 3
countries, we managed to communicate our direction in automation and the new
cornerstone which can help every company automate when they need to: low cost,
high value and modular products. Towards the end of the year, we
investigated the issues faced and solutions tested during the 2019 business
plan – and likewise explored the upcoming projections for 2020. With
several presentations, exhibitions and conferences throughout the year, we were
able to update and reflect on the ongoing endeavour. By presenting our tour, we
in turn demonstrated the 3 steps we employ to ensure companies adopt and
embrace robotics and automation, whether by small or large means: contact, listen,
develop. We saw throughout the tour how robotics and automation can improve the lives of employers and employees. Notwithstanding, the igus® message lay in the belief that automation exists for not only the large and established machine builders but also for start-up companies and small and medium engineering firms. To close, we can reflect on King Midas and his fascinating
ability to turn everything he touched into gold. To represent this marvel, we
employ the following acronym to describe our aims to achieve superb automation
and robotics projects for all the companies we touch: Meet businesses, Inform about igus® Low Cost Automation, Develop ideas, Achieve solutions, Support future projects.
