According to foreign media reports, the US Steel Workers Union and Goodyear, Bridgestone and Sumitomo Rubber USA Ltd. will sign a new five-year labor contract.

The union spokesperson revealed that the old contract with the three tire companies expired on July 29. Currently, three new contracts have been drafted, covering more than 10,000 employees in 12 US factories.

The spokesperson said that the contract will be made public at the approval meeting and the voting process may take several weeks.

On July 29, Goodyear issued a statement saying that its new contract covers five locations, about 7,000 workers.

The five locations are Akron, Ohio, Gadsden, Alabama, Topeka, Kansas, Danville, Virginia, and Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Jim Allen, vice president of global labor relations at Goodyear, said: "We believe that the new labor agreement will enable Goodyear and the United Steelworkers Association to achieve better development in the future."

Bridgestone said its contract covers six locations and employs approximately 3,000 people.

The six locations are Akron, Ohio, Des Moines, Iowa, Bloomington, Ill., Russellville, Arkansas, Rutherford and Warren County, Tennessee.

A spokesperson for the company said: "After several rounds of negotiations, we reached a mutually satisfactory tentative contract. I believe this contract will have a positive impact on our partners and manufacturing plants."

Sumitomo Rubber's contract covers its US factory in Buffalo, involving approximately 1,300 people.
