Excluding duplicate statistics (mainly single and compound fertilizers were counted repeatedly, SOP and MOP were counted repeatedly, etc.), the fertilizer production in 2010 was approximately 64.427 million tons, an increase of 2.7% year-on-year; in the past 10 years, 2010 Fertilizer output growth was only slightly higher than in 2008 when the financial crisis hit. The output of nitrogenous fertilizer was 43.403 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 3.6%. The first time in the past 10 years, production declined. The output of phosphate fertilizer and potash fertilizer were 17.233 million tons and 3.760 million tons, respectively, an increase of 20.2% and 12.7% year-on-year respectively.
The differentiation of the fertilizer production situation has led to major changes in the production structure. The proportion of nitrogen fertilizer in the total fertilizer output dropped from 71.6% in the previous year to 67.2%, while the share of phosphate fertilizer and potash fertilizer increased from 23.0% and 5.4% in the previous year to 26.9% and 5.9% respectively.
According to the variety statistics, the urea output in 2010 was 57.816 million tons (physical quantity, the same below), which was a year-on-year decrease of 7.1%, and it was down 8 consecutive months since May. Of the major producing provinces, only a few provinces such as Xinjiang, Jiangsu, Anhui and Hubei maintained their year-on-year growth. The proportion of urea in the nitrogen fertilizer production structure dropped from 64.2% in the same period last year to 61.8%. Ammonium phosphate fertilizer production was 22.89 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 28.6%. Of these, Hubei, Guizhou, Yunnan, and Sichuan were 5.7 million tons, 4.3 million tons, 3.83 million tons, and 1.93 million tons, respectively, reaching 68.3%, 25.2%, 9.9%, and 46.5% respectively.
This was mainly due to the fact that the actual decline in nitrogen fertilizer production exceeded expectations and, with the elimination of duplicate statistics, the overall situation of fertilizer supply will become tight. Therefore, BOABC adjusted its supply and demand data for 2010. By the end of 2010, the total amount of fertilizer stocks was approximately 14.55 million tons, which was a year-on-year decrease of 3.5%; the ratio of stock consumption was reduced from 26.1% in the previous year to 23.8%.
Due to the continued decline in nitrogen fertilizer production, the production of chemical fertilizers in December 2010 was 5.582 million tons (refine, the same below), a year-on-year decrease of 7.3%. The output of nitrogenous fertilizer was 3.641 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 11.4%. The decline in production volume was a new record high, and the production volume had dropped for the 10 consecutive months.
