There are many researches on the relationship between vegetation and soil moisture in the Loess Plateau, especially the phenomenon of "dry soil layer" commonly existing in the Loess Plateau of North Shaanxi from the south to the north. Studies have pointed out that plantation forests can use deep soil moisture to the limit, thus forming a “dry layer†that causes the deep soil to completely lose the water regulating function of plant growth. The formation of “dry layer†marks that the root system has been difficult to remove from the soil. To absorb moisture, plants rely mainly on rainfall that year. It can be seen that there is a prominent contradiction between the supply of soil moisture and plant water consumption during vegetation restoration, which has become the key to the success or failure of vegetation restoration.
On the basis of the investigation of the vegetation in the study area, representative secondary forest land, artificial locust forest land and artificial pine forest land were selected as observation sites, and all plots were located in the middle of the slope with an altitude of 950-1100 m. A survey of wooden scales and stands was conducted on the observation plots. After investigation, the soil in the sample plot was uniform, and there was no relatively impermeable layer such as calcium nodule layer, clay layer or parent layer in the soil layer. The soil moisture tester monitoring system was used to monitor the dynamic changes of soil moisture over the three observation sites.
Through the determination of the soil moisture tester, the secondary forest land mainly consumes shallow soil moisture, and can rely on natural precipitation to make the secondary forest vegetation and soil water resources reach a state of equilibrium. Therefore, how to take measures to restore vegetation in the dry and low-lying Loess Plateau area, adjust the relationship between artificial vegetation and soil water resources, and form a natural forest coordinated with the local water and soil resources, is the key to the current vegetation construction in the region.
Loess Plateau soil erosion is very serious, in order to improve the ecological environment, prevention and control of soil erosion, water and soil conservation vegetation construction is essential. The lack of serious soil moisture under different vegetation in special drought years has very serious constraints on the development of vegetation in soil and water conservation on the Loess Plateau. In this regard, soil moisture has become a key factor in vegetation restoration and reconstruction. Using soil moisture tester to measure soil moisture provides a reliable basis for the construction of vegetation on the Loess Plateau.
